Every Monday, I post a painting “inspiration.” Every Thursday, I post how I interpreted the inspiration. I decided to do this to keep myself painting, to strengthen how I go from an idea to a painting, and to give myself permission to play and try new things.

This month, I’m committed to finishing paintings I’ve started but never completed. So my inspiration for the month of September is FINISHING WHAT I STARTED. Here are a few paintings I finished…

After I finish up some paintings in September, I would love for October’s “inspirations” to come from you. Do you have an idea for me? If so, please leave a comment with your inspiration idea. It can be a word, a story, an idea, a time period, a book, a song…whatever you can think of.

Here’s what’s been happening in my studio…

I had a Stampin’ Up! cardmaking club meeting in August, so I made two new cards.

August Card 1

A Halloween card. The two stripes at the bottom are washi tape. The glitter stripe was made by applying a piece of double-sided sticky tape and then adding glitter. We also used embossing powder on the background stamp and skull stamp.

August Card 2

A Christmas card. I fell in love with this card because it would be so easy to make in any color you choose. The striped background was made with an embossing folder and a Sizzix machine and the perfect ovals where cut using dies. I ordered this stamp set because in my fantasy life, I will use it to make my Christmas cards. I’m so awesome in my fantasy life!

This Week’s Inspiration (well…Last Month’s Inspiration)

In 2013, I’m doing Inspiration Mondays and Results Thursdays. Every Monday, I’ll post a painting “inspiration” and then on Thursdays, I’ll post how I’m interpreting that inspiration.

My last inspiration (before The August Break 2013) was PEACE.

Notice that it’s hanging on a wall. I put up some of my paintings at my local library. I’ll show more photos soon.

This month, I’m committed to finishing paintings I’ve started but never completed. So my inspiration for the month of September is FINISHING WHAT I STARTED.

This Week’s Inspiration

Last week’s inspiration was GOODNESS.

This week’s inspiration is…PEACE.

Here’s something fun I’m going to do in August, The August Break 2013 hosted by Susannah Conway.

The August Break 2013 Large

Here’s how it works:

Each day, for the whole of August, you take a photo and share it on your blog. You can add words if you want — or not. You can use any camera. You could share a series of photos, or miss a day out, or just post on weekends. There are no real rules, basically. This is all about being present and enjoying taking photos. And perhaps reinvigorating your love for blogging, or taking a break from writing. If you don’t have a blog you can add photos to the August Break Flickr pool. We’ll also have an Instagram hashtag — #augustbreak2013 — so we can gather as a group there, too.

This year, Susannah is providing a list of photo prompts. Remember, there are no rules, so you don’t have to follow the list, it’s just a list of prompts if you find that type of thing helpful. I find that type of thing helpful, so I’m going to follow the list.

As usual, I didn’t finish this one, but you can get a feel for how she’ll look in the end. I plan to keep her simple, so I’ll probably just add a little finishing to her face.

How to be HAPPY!

HTBHappyBadge

Every Thursday, Jay of The Depp Effect, posts something that makes her happy, and I’m playing along. She encourages us to look around and notice the things that make us happy. I enjoy this challenge because it makes me consider the things that make me happy, but are easily overlooked. It’s a wonderful exercise in attention and gratitude. Please grab the badge and join in.

Here’s something that makes me happy…CANDLES.

HTBH Candles

I love all manner of candles and “scents,” but my absolute favorite is a scented wax candle. The fragrance and the flickering light seem both elegant and homey. Candles have an extravagant feel to me, and that makes me happy.

Here’s something that makes me happy…SHARP SCISSORS.

Sharp Scissors

I was thinking about things that make me happy, and right away I thought of the satisfaction and ease that comes with using a pair of sharp scissors. This is my collection of “good” scissors. By “good,” I mean “hidden.” I have a special box where I keep these scissors so they’ll be used for the purpose for which they were intended, as opposed to purposes for which they weren’t intended…like cutting open plastic clamshell packaging. Not that this has ever happened in our home. I received four of the six as presents. Scissors actually make a very nice gift. The right tool makes the task a pleasure.
