Dewey Beach 2012 – The Purchases

Posted by lori . 14 Comments

One of the fun things about Greyhounds Reach the Beach are the all the wonderful vendors.  Here’s what I picked up:

Tag Collars – I like this idea and wanted to give it a try.  A tag collar is slipped over the head and holds an identification tag.  They’re designed to be break-away.  I want to try them because sometimes I like to let the hounds go “naked” around the house, but I still want them to wear an identification tag.  These are from LongDog Leather Works.

Hedgehog Toys – Freedom’s hedgehog is lookin’ mighty rough, so I picked up these so she’ll have plenty of her favorite size hedgehog.

Union Jack Poop Bag Holder – Couldn’t resist this for Casper.

Greyhound Notecards – So pretty.  These are from Gryffin Designs.

Greyhound Jewelry – The “Love Greyhounds” piece is from Anne & Jane.  This was the first time I had seen their work.  The round pendant is cast from an antique button and is the lovely work of Shannon O’Reilly.

Fleece Top – This was an impulse buy, but I’m sure I’ll get a lot of wear out of it, especially during the cold months ahead.

Butterfly Gourd – I love decorative gourds.  I saw this little beauty in a shop in Rehobeth and added it to my collection.

Our most special purchase…an urn for our beloved Paloma.  Paloma was our first greyhound and we lost her much too early.  Last year, we saw these beautiful urns from The Barking Tree.  My husband loved the beautiful wood and admired the skill and artistry of Pete Wade, their creator.  This year, we selected one for Paloma.

  • That’s quite a shopping spree. Love your shot and inspiration for the day. Reminds me of a song I was singing this morning [listening to some oldies at the moment] …”what if god was one of us? just a slob like one of us. just a stranger on the bus, trying to make his way home.” Do you know the song I mean? :)x

Nice….I have heard the break away collars are very good. I have the pendant from that necklace with the “love”. It always makes me smile.

The vase for Paloma is beautiful. I always feel Paloma is with us when we gather the dogs. Without her we wouldn’t have met. So many things happened because of her. And when we met her she made a huge impression. Our memories are our most precious possessions.

I love all the stuff you got!! Love anything Greyhound or sight hound too!!! Before I got Zoie I was looking for a sight hound since the last 3 dogs I have had were sight hounds and were so wonderful. No one ever jumped the fence or wanted to go any where I wasn’t!!!!!!

  • I love all the things you got – is there anything better than dog inspired gifts! Paloma’s urn is beautiful.

Oh, you got some great stuff! I really missed the shopping this year, but the moths in my pocket book missed it even more. If only they’d have one great Greyhound event in the Midwest!

No collars this year? I think Bunny passed out at the thought!

I know! I’m ashamed. What kind of Greyhound mom am I to not pick up new collars? That’s the question Freedom, Nikki and Casper are asking.

  • Oooohhhhh!!! I do wish we could have met up!! It would have been so much fun. We, of course, were dependent on transport from others and we were in a condo on Atlantic Drive, right up near Highway 1 in Rehoboth. I missed quite a few of the vendors you found, but I’m so glad you bought something from Anne and Jane because I have a pair of earrings from them, with those cute greyhound heads and I have been wishing I could remember who I bought them from so I could look for more!! I’ve had them for years and they still look gorgeous and polish up beautifully.

I didn’t get to see Mo at LongDog either. 🙁 Not that I needed to buy anything, but it’s always fun to browse in her shop. She always has such nice things and always something new.

The urn is gorgeous. We just have plain wood caskets, which I do like, but sometimes I think it would be lovely to do something fancy for them. I don’t know that I have the courage to open them though, to transfer the contents.
