Every Day Ugly – Part 5
.
Every month, I’m looking around at all the things I use the most, to make sure those are my “best” things. This series was inspired by my friend, Amy, who noticed that some of the ickiest things she owned were the things she used the most. She wanted to change that to make sure that her every day life was filled with beautiful, functional things. This inspired me to take a look around and make sure that I wasn’t saving “the best” for days that rarely come.
This month, the change was small but good…new kitchen sink sponges. A while back I changed from plain sponges to prettier cellulose sponges.
Old Sponge to Cellulose Sponge
Then, I saw these Greener Clean Sponges from Scotch-Brite and thought they might be an even better choice.
New Sponge
What makes these sponges even more environmentally-friendly is the scrubbing fibers are made from 50% agave plant, and the sponges are made from 100% plant-based fibers with 23% of that being recycled materials. A nice change.
I love to see what you’re doing too. Recently, Patty (Joey and Scout’s momma), from Two Greyhound Town, updated her spice containers. I asked her if I could share her new look and she said, “yes.”

Don’t the new jars look lovely! Since Patty is a wonderful cook, this is something she’ll enjoy almost every day. Two Greyhound Town is one of my favorite blogs and chronicles the adventures of Joey and Scout, two Greyhounds who are RV’ing all over the country. Joey and Scout are hilarious, and Patty shares their travel adventures, RV living tips, takes us to places they visit and writes restaurant reviews on her blog That One Restaurant. Check them out.
I do an “Every Day Ugly” post on the second Wednesday of every month. I would love to have you join me. If you have some horrible thing that you make beautiful, send me a picture or pictures and tell me about it at whatremainsnow@gmail.com.
Lori, thanks for sharing my photos and for the nice comments about my blogs. 🙂
I like your new sponges. The only ones that I use are the “Erasers”.
So much better. We like the idea of make the ugly pretty post. Loved your post yesterday. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
I like the pretty sponges, but the “greener” ones are great.
Oh yes, we know about the new sponges. Small changes are good!
love the spices rack – very stylish makeover
i filled my shelf already and the new jars of spices still keep coming!
Love your everyday ugly! I’m feeling inspired to prettify something here. I am partial to the fun cellulose sponges. You’d almost enjoy scrubbing something with one of those 🙂
Love the spice racks. They’d be handy for crafting storage.
I use coloured sponges.
My spice drawer is a nightmare

Those are such pretty sponges – you can bet they don’t sell those here, LOL!
Love the new spice bottles.

Nice!

We have a spice bucket. And we just use different coloured sponges so we know which one is new…..We’re into everyday SLACK!
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Helloooo! Just wanted to shout out a last hi from NZ. At the airport now, waiting to board.
Believe it or it, I like looking at scrubbers at the supermarket too. I use some bamboo based wiping cloths that are pretty tough. A pack of 3 has lasted me a year and still look okay! X
It is amazing how simple little changes can bring such joy!
We love Joey and Scout’s blog, too, but maybe we’re biased because Joey is Bunny’s half brother. I thought her spice racks were a great idea and really prettied things up! I’ve never heard of agave sponges before, but they sound pretty awesome!
I need to get busy and find a few pretty things to organize my computer desk…
I am going to look for those sponges – time for a change here too. I have been very busy going through all the storage areas and finally tossing a lot of those things that never get used. Amazing how much “stuff” we can accumulate.
Those are some fancy sponges in the first picture. I have to say though… the second sponge looks like it packs some great scrubbing power! We’ll have to keep an eye out for those.
I know we don’t get those pretty sponges here because I often look at sponges. Nor do we get the agave ones, we’re very deprived in New Zealand:( And I have no life, lol! Great updated spice jars. I should send you some before and after pics of my bathroom as an example of my ugly to pretty. I love it now.
Please do!
Very nice improvement indeed…I like those sponges too.
I have finally remembered to write down the day you do every day ugly.
The spices make for a beautiful kitchen enhancement especially with the lighting.
Hugs madi your BFFF
We cook with lots of spices and the improvement is striking!! Very nice!! I don’t use sponges at al!! I use a clean dish cloth daily.
I also use a whipe cloth daily just to wipe the counters down when they get damp. I really like that clean cloth to work with .
We have been getting a few strawberries for a couple of months now daily. This week-end we will have lots of beautiful strawberries that are organic that we grew ourselves!!! They are so so so good!!!!!
Oh!!! To the sponges and the spices!
