Galgos Del Sol
.
I’m participating in Blog the Change for Animals. Bloggers are invited to write about a cause near and dear to their hearts, so I decided to write about an organization I follow that works tirelessly on behalf of animals, particularly Galgos. The organization is Galgos Del Sol.
Here’s a little information…”The Galgo Español or Spanish Greyhound is an ancient breed and a member of the sighthound family. Despite being called a ‘greyhound,” the Spanish Galgo is not closely related to the English or Irish Greyhound, the lineage of the two breeds being different. Bred solely for hunting, thousands of Galgos are abandoned or killed annually at the end of each short season. Galgos are not typically considered as pet worthy in Spain and their lives end in less than humane ways either in perreras (kill stations) or abandoned to a life of persecution on the streets.”
Galgo Del Sol is working not only to rescue animals but also to change hearts and minds. They are on the frontlines and I admire all the work they do to make the world a more humane place.

Poor dogs. They’re so beautiful!

I’ve shed many a tear over articles about the dogs in Spain.
Silly us. We knew about Italian Greyhounds, but not the others. Poor pups. We hope by getting word out there, things can change for them.
XXXOOO Daisy, Bella & Roxy
Changing hearts and minds has to be the way forward. Have a wonderful Wednesday.
Best wishes Molly
This is one of the many things I admire about Galgos Del Sol…their commitment to changing people’s minds and hearts regarding this noble breed.
Lori what a wonderful group and cause. We had absolutely no idea about this. Greys are have so much to give after racing…We have known several folks with rescued Greys. They are so loving and appreciative of anything you do for them.
Hugs madi and mom
Love the galgos. They are so sweet. I hate that it’s a cultural acceptance to think of the galgos that way. Then again, I’m not sure what happens to all the coonhounds and beagles that go trudging through my property during hunting season. I returned 3 who got lost last year.
Wow, I have never heard about any of that. I hope they have success.
I was fortunate enough to meet my first galgo at Dewey this past week. I got to meet Thor! He had only been here about a week when I met him. Gorgeous, sweet boy. A galgo is on my bucket list of dogs!
I had no idea about Galgos! I’m glad there is an organization dedicated to their welfare, so sad what they suffer.
What a great cause and so worthy. Those poor dogs have a life of hell.

It is dreadful what they do to galgos in Spain. It makes you wonder about a culture that allows that to continue widespread.
What a wonderful organization.
Animals –ALL animals are near and dear to my heart too!!! ALL!!!
The cats like that same spot b/c it is close to were we eat and they always want to be close to their people!!! They are all super loving cats– a wild bunch but super loving too!!!! LOL
I think I have another year of tear it up with them!!! LOL
Awesome Lori! Sometimes I think Greyhounds have it good compared to what happens to most Galgos who aren’t any good or past their best. The ones that are saved each year are only a drop in the bucket. Spain isn’t on my list of places I’d like to visit unless I could help the Galgos in some way.
That is another one of the dream vacations…a trip to Spain where I could do service with a Galgo rescue group.
It’s a fabulous organisation that we know well. Many people are now helping to raise money for the Galgos, and boy do they need it. Well done for raising their profile in Blogville. Deccy x
I really have to go take down my Blog the Change badge…as I’ve managed to miss both the July and the October dates! 😀 But I’m all for spreading the word and doing what I can for good causes like this and I thank you for the information on Galgos del Sol!
