General George A. Custer

Posted by lori . 2 Comments

Did you know that General George Custer was a greyhound owner?  He and his wife, Libby, loved dogs.

If you’d like to read more about General George Custer and his dogs, check out the article General George A Custer’s Dogs on the Western Frontier of America by Jasmine West.  This is not warm and cuddly “pet-lovers” information, but it is a fascinating article about the Custers and their dogs.

I can’t believe it! I was actually planning on writing about Custer and his Greyhounds later on. That’s uncanny — yet again! I also learned that Lincoln had Greyhounds, too. I have to research that one!

If you didn’t order the book we gave away already, you might want to look into ordering it from the guy who wrote it. I think he gives discounts to groups doing fundraisers. Someone else asked me if Blue would autograph some for her and one she’s donating to her adoption group. I told her we’d be glad to! So, if you’re interested in that, let me know. I’m not sure it makes the book more valuable or anything, so it’s up to you!

What a generous offer of Blue’s “signature.” Thank you! I’ll email you. I should have remembered about the gentleman who wrote the book. I think you mentioned that in your post about Blueberry being the model. For the future, copies of the book might be a fun idea to have on-hand for Meet & Greets. I LOVE your greyhound history lessons. Custer is a greyt subject because it appears that he and his wife really did love greyhounds. I read that he coursed his hounds the night before the Battle of Little Bighorn. You would do a wonderful job with the subject!
