Every Monday, I’m posting a painting “inspiration.†Every Thursday, I’m posting how I interpreted the inspiration. I decided to do this to keep myself painting, to strengthen how I go from an idea to a painting, and to give myself permission to play and try new things. For the next several weeks, I’m taking my inspiration from the great ideas you sent me.
This week’s inspiration comes from Kat of Dog Gone Right…WATER. Here’s the girl that came out of that inspiration…
How to be HAPPY!
Every Thursday, Jay of The Depp Effect, posts something that makes her happy, and I’m playing along. She encourages us to look around and notice the things that make us happy. I enjoy this challenge because it makes me consider the things that make me happy, but are easily overlooked. It’s a wonderful exercise in attention and gratitude. Please grab the badge and join in.
Here’s something that makes me happy…My favorite brush, a #12 FLAT BRUSH.
Any type of work is easier and more enjoyable when you have the proper tools. The #12 flat brush is my favorite paint brush. I love it for base coating, for adding shadows and highlights and for the precise line I can get with the edge of the brush. This brush feels good in my hand.
Loving the painting. Do you always do the lady, or do you do other things?
Right now, I’ve been focusing on girls, but I’d like to do more animals in the future.
I love your water girl in her bathing cap! Very summery.
Good house painting brushes are important too. I’m sure I’d do a less streaky job if Cushion forked out more for a good brush 😉
She looks ready for summer!
Love your water girl, specially her bathing cap!

Woof! Woof! Lovely! Love the background .. but can’t see close-up very well. It is just mixture of colors or there’s an image? Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
It’s a mixture of colors I dabbed on using a stencil brush.
Oh isn’t she cute and summery!!
You paint beautifully Lori, I enjoy looking at what you’ve done and it’s interesting to see how you interpret a word through your painting. Do you actually use that brush or is it for show? It’s so clean and certainly looks like you value it:)
I always like to have a new one for precise work. The one in the photo is my current “new” one. Once it loses its sharp edge, I retire it and use it for less precise painting.
How fun to see how you took my one word and interpreted it to create this lovely girl!!! It’s been such a crazy-busy week that I’m just now catching up on your blog and hadn’t realized you were using ‘my’ word 😃
And since I can’t post on Friday’s post, I’ll comment here that I love the Longfellow poem!
Beautiful watery inspiration.
That does look like a great brush! I had a fan-shaped sable brush that was a favourite of mine and do you think I can find it? It’s just not the same buying a new one.
Oh well. I’m having a bit of a clear out, one ‘grot-spot’ at a time. One day I’ll probably find it!
I agree. Great tools, great pleasure in creating 🙂
