Outdoor Challenges
.
I saw this list of 50 Outdoor Challenges over at Harvest Moon by Hand. The list shows 50 fun outdoor activities every child should do before they’re 12 years old. This list was compiled by the UK’s National Trust.
Although we share a common language, there are some differences. Here are the words I had to look-up:
Conkers - A traditional British children’s game played with the seeds of horse-chestnut trees.  The game is played by two players, each with a conker threaded onto a piece of string: they take turns striking each other’s conker until one breaks.
Sledging -Â sledding.
Wild swimming -Â outdoor swimming in lakes or streams.
Abseiling -Â rappelling.
So…if you’re looking for something to do this summer and you missed any of these activities when you were younger, here’s your chance. Wishing everyone a wonderful Memorial Day weekend.

You don’t play conkers?! You don’t know what you’re missing! The serious conker player sometimes pickles the conker in vinegar or bakes in the oven to make them extra hard! Sadly many schools have banned the playing of conkers on the grounds of health & safety (we really do live in a nanny-state!) and Mum saw a news item where the kids were made to put on safety goggles before playing! Ridiculous! Getting a black eye from a conker is all part of growing up! Deccy x
I’m loving that list! I just might have to try a few of those things, especially now that summer vacation is almost here for me! 🙂
Ive never heard of conkers either, love the name as I love all things british. I also think a black eye from a conker sounds like an excellent childhood experience. The list is very cute

Kids these days should do a lot more outdoor things like that, all they ever do is sit in front of a tv or computer – crikey, that makes me sound old, doesn’t it!

I did (and am still doing :D) all of them but 10, 44, 46, 48 and 49

I’m lucky to be old enough to have done quite a lot of that list. I feel sorry for kids these days, stuck indoors on their video games. But I guess they don’t know what they’re missing.
That is such a fun list. It brings back some of my childhood memories.
