Shopping – Greyhounds In Gettysburg

.

Last weekend, we loaded up the houndies and went to Greyhounds in Gettysburg. We had a GREYT time.  Shopping is one of my favorite things to do, particularly from small businesses, artists and craftsmen.  Greyhounds in Gettysburg didn’t disappoint.  Here are my new treasures:

I told myself, “No new collars on this trip.”  Then, I saw these three collars from 2 Hounds Design.  DOH!

Because it was a little chilly, my husband couldn’t resist getting the houndies their first sweaters.  These beauties are from Houndstown.

A little something me…a one-of-a-kind ring from Beth Wade Design.  This is my first Beth Wade piece.  It won’t be my last.

I love coin jewelry, so I had to have this Irish coin.  What makes it extra special…it’s from my birth year.  This lovely piece is from Feathered Gems Jewelry.  A little history about the famous greyhound on the coin…

“Master McGrath (pronounced McGraw) was an Irish coursing greyhound.  He won the Waterloo cup, the biggest coursing event in the British Isles, three time, in 1868, 1869 and 1871, something no courser had ever done before.  His wins over famous British dogs made him an Irish national hero.  Songs and poetry were written in his honor, pubs were named after him, and he was immortalized on the new Irish Free State sixpence in 1928.  In 1938, the country’s name changed to the Republic of Ireland, but Master McGrath remained on the coins until 1969 when the sixpence was made obsolete by a currency change.”

How fun is this.  A little green greyhound charm from Clay Greys.  Clay Greys doesn’t only do greyhounds.  They do a variety of pets and custom orders.

A few of the purchases were practical, like these  lights for when we’re out after dark.

And these poo bags.

Freedom, Casper & Nikki’s favorites…the complimentary toys and treats we received with our registration packets.  Go figure.

There’s a great power in words, if you don’t hitch too many of them together.

  • Oooh, you went to GIG! I am envious!! I was all set to go one year and then circumstances changed and prevented me. I might manage Dewey this year again, but it’s looking a bit doubtful.

I love all your treasures. The little green greyhound head is lovely, and the ‘Do Rights’ are priceless. What a great name for them!

I love the quote too. I’m afraid I’m often guilty of hitching too many words together.

Wow you certainly spent up your allowance! Great stuff though. I LOVE those sweaters. Wouldn’t it be fun if Casper and I could meet up. He could wear the Union Jack and I’d have the Stars and Stripes!

Do you want to know the best thing of all?! Mum has done some checking and Casper & I are related to Master McGrath! Sure it’s kind of distant but the link is a dog called David http://www.greyhound-data.com/d?i=57417 That will be a cool story to tell when you wear your ring! Deccy x

  • Oh I love your treasures Lori! You are right, buying from artists and small businesses is so different from big chain stores – and totally justifiable in my book :)
The sweaters are gorgeous and such sweet collars. Looks like the kids got plenty to keep them amused too. I love seeing what other people buy – sooo nosey, lol.

I love all your treasures! I didn’t come home with nearly as much stuff as I’d planned to. I didn’t have time to do much shopping. I am really in love with those collars you got, though, and I love Beth Wade’s jewelry!

I love your purchases! It looks like you had a wonderful time!

  • What a stash! I would have gone mad too.

I love greyhound collars! Every blogging greyhound seems to have gorgeous ones. I wonder if they would fit Georgia’s neck. She usually has martingales.

Even the poop bags are cute. ARGH!!!

  • You got some great stuff! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the middle collar!

I was bummed to learn you were at GIG and I missed meeting you. My trip was short, as I drove up from Virginia Saturday morning, and back home Saturday night. Next year I will do better planning, I promise! Love the collars you selected, and the sweaters too!
