Wanted: Clever Ideas

Do you have a clever idea for using something intended for one purpose for something entirely different…like using a coffee mug as a pencil holder? If you do have a great idea that’s made your life a little easier or a little more fun, I’d love to include it in a post I’m preparing.

Pencil Mug

Share your cleverness with me in the Comments or send me an email at whatremainsnow@gmail.com. Pictures are welcome.

We’re not very good with ideas. But some of HER pottery serving bowls have ended up as hold alls for loose screws, paper clips, rubber bands and anything else SHE doesn’t want to throw out!

Dolly pegs are ideal for wrapping ribbons round.

Not feeling particularly clever this a.m. as haven’t had nearly enough coffee yet, but had to say that I LOVE that coffee mug! 😀

I dont feel too clever and this is not my idea but I love the kindle covers made of old books

  • I have a big zero in my head at the moment. The one thing I can think of is using our old quilt covers or extra fitted sheets as Georgia’s bed covers. They’re big enough to be used 4 times over (4 different sides) so saves washing.

  • Patty says:

I am not sure I am that clever. I need to think about it. LOL

  • Madi and Mom says:

Very very clever….this is not an original idea but we always thought it was clever. I did not know my Dad’s Mom but my mom did. Mom said Grandma Margie was always smiling ALWAYS!! And she made the best biscuits under the sun. Her biscuit cutter was a small Welch’s Grape concentrated juice can. It make biscuits a perfect size too. Mom still has the can (she thinks) if you need a picture let us know.

Since we’ve already sent you our one good idea, we’re all tapped out 🙂 But we definitely look forward to seeing what other great ideas you collect.

  • We use a pretty but cracked mug to hold teaspoons near the kettle, and also a placemat under the mugs when we make tea, to catch the drips.

We use those free data CDs for coasters.

Oh, and here’s a tip; to dust meat with flour before sealing it when you’re making a casserole, pop the flour, seasoning etc into a ziplock bag with the meat, give it a shake, and then when you’ve taken out the meat, you can just throw it away and voila! No clean-up! You can use washed-out previously used bags if they’ve only been used for relatively clean things, which is more environmentally friendly.

We also use those free plastic grocery bags for peeling vegetables into, so once you’re done, you can just pick the whole thing up and empty it into the compost bin – or if you don’t have one, into the waste.

And I’ve always got old tee shirts and towels, torn up into squares, under the kitchen sink to use for rag. A filthy cleaning job? No problem, use rag and throw it away when you’re done.

I’ll have to ponder this! I know there are things, but my brain is a total blank! I don’t seem to have much ability to make sense left!

  • We use crochet plants instead of real ones…

  • Woof! Woof! Mom always use a mug (especially if it nice, odd) to use as pencil/pen holders. Well we are in a temporary place, mom recently bought some pictures frames (one of them got a flat back). She loves to drink coffee (she likes it hot and drinks a lot). Guess what’s she using as a coaster? Lots of Golden Woofs, Sugar
