Wicked: The Musical
.
Every Saturday, I share my weeklyรย Artist Date.
This week’s date was extra special. My husband and I went to see Wicked.
Wicked played in Chicago for 3-1/2 years, and I managed not to go even though I kept saying I wanted to go. So, when I heard that Wicked was coming to South Bend, I made sure to be early in line for tickets.
The musical event was at The Morris Performing Arts Center. Originally called the Palace Theatre, รย it was built in 1921 and at that time was the most modern theater in the country.
The history of The Morris Performing Arts Center is fascinating. In May 1998, The Morris closed its doors in order to begin a complete 17 million dollar restoration & renovation.
When The Morris re-opened in March 2000, the newly restored theater had a brand-new, state-of-the-art stage house and the interiors were restored to their original 1921 splendor.
The evening of the musical was super exciting. There were fans in witches hats and the fountain in front of The Morris sprayed green water.
It was a breathtaking production.
A wonderful Artist Date.
I saw it several years ago and while I liked the set design I did not love the music, I think I prefer the more traditional oz story. Glad you had a good time

Glad you enjoyed the show. I haven’t seen this one but would love to. I bought my son tickets for him and a friend years ago and he loved it too. That looks a gorgeous theatre.

The theater is beautiful!
That theatre is beautiful. So glad it was restored and not torn down…which is probably more usual.

Mom and Dad saw if a few years ago too, in Kansas City, and Dad saw it even before that in NYC. They really enjoyed it.
Such a beautiful theater – good that it was able to be restored to such beauty.
Woos – Phantom, Thunder, Ciara, and Lightning
I’m generally not a fan of musicals, but that one looks cool!
What a fabulous theatre! Sounds like a great Artist date. I have a friend who saw Wicked on Broadway and loved it.
I’ve missed keeping up with you through the blog over the past couple of weeks as things have been so frantic, but am hopeful they’re settling back down a bit. I’ve enjoyed going back today and “catching up” ๐

How fun. I loved the book and have wanted to see the musical.
Hmm, I’ve never heard of Wicked, maybe it hasn’t arrived in New Zealand? I’m not really a fan of musicals but I’m sure anything would be wonderful in that glorious arts centre. What an awesome job was done on the restoration. It’s a work of art in it’s own right.
Holy moly, that is quite the theater! Worth the trip just to see the inside of that place.
